Another strong positive invitation has come to return to Kenya and teach Pastors and Leaders. When I see the massive needs there it is difficult not to decide to go. The final decision for 2008 has not as yet been made. Leaders who are so genuine and sincere need constant encouragement, particularly where they find so many things so very hard - politically and physically.
Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and a few other central African countries should be rich and comfortable but many are living on the equivalent of around one dollar a day. This is partially because of the legacy of colonialism, bad government and global injustice.

Man likes to grumble complain whine and find someone to blame as soon as something does not go the way he thought things were going to go and we see that so clearly in the amazing book of Exodus and in that scenario we read of in Chapter 16.
The grumbling had begun - we read of that in Chapter 15, and here it is again.
What is happening here? Let’s just take a moment to consider what we are looking at - it is important to get at the actual facts and also to be systematic.

Yes there is a way to balance worshiping God with serving our neighbour.
In Luke Chapter 10 and at verse 25, we read of a religious lawyer coming up to Jesus - with a question - and it just happens to be one of the most important questions a man can ask - “Teacher - what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
But, this religious man with his keen legal mind proves to be most insincere. Oh, he comes with this right question - to the right person - but look at his motive. He comes to tempt Jesus - to test Jesus - seeking to trap Jesus. Do check the text. That is always so important.

Growth is the essence of business success and whether that is for personal advancement or for the cause of your business there are ten essential ingredients you will need.
Firstly the right mindset - Without the right mindset you are firmly stuck at base one. All business leaders and successful entrepreneurs have an approach to life that is epitomized by their positive attitude, open to opportunity and unperturbed by the negative.
Secondly, the will and the action to be first. Those with first mover advantage invariably win the lions share and take the dominant market position.

“Above all be of single aim; have a legitimate and useful purpose, and devote yourself unreservedly to it.”
- James Allan
David Jones was a British teenager who wanted to make a career out of his love for music. He was playing and performing his music before he ever graduated from school. He become a leader of several bands and finally recorded his first album.
The album received positive reviews by England’s harshest music critics, yet it sold little. In a matter of months, David was homeless and living on the streets. To make matters worse, a new popular London band called The Monkeys was roaring across the headlines and the country with a bandleader who had the same name that he did!

Leadership is about making things happen.
If you want to make something happen with your life – in school, in your profession or in your community, do it. Perceived obstacles crumble against persistent desire.
But persistence for your cause should not be gained at the expense of others. A bit of leadership wisdom.
Listen and understand the issue, then lead.
Time and time again we have all been told, “God gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason”, “Seek to understand, rather than be understood.” As a leader, listening first to the issue, then trying to coach is the most valuable advice.

You won’t keep your customers happy if your organization is filled with people who are unhappy or unmotivated.
So how do you keep your employees motivated, engaged and happy? Make them feel connected to the results of the organization by showing them that their ideas count.
Cultivate Grass Roots Leadership
Often the people in the trenches are the ones in the best position to make critical decisions. They may either feel uncomfortable to express their ideas or are not encouraged to do so.
Encourage leadership at all levels of the organization by creating a culture which rewards independent thinking, supports ideas with resources and forgives mistakes.

“Charisma is the intangible that makes people want to follow you, to be around you, to be influenced by you.”
– Roger Dawson
Each person is born ethnocentric, or believing that other people and events revolve around them which is generally true for the first few years of a child’s life. The focus of activity for a growing child is inward. Some people carry this inward, self-focus into adulthood. These people, so overly concerned with their own well being in a self-centered way, never learn the secrets of influence. Successful people, who want to have the power of persuasion, turn their circle of activity and interest outward. They expand their centers to be as conscious of the world around them as they are of themselves. They develop what we call, charisma.

Robert Hargrove suggests that “masterful” coaching involves challenging and supporting people to be extraordinary leaders, as well as to achieve extraordinary levels of performance (Hargrove, p. 12). When I have asked participants of leadership and/or coaching workshops to think back to the individual who had the most impact in their lives, inevitably, participants remember teachers, coaches, family members, friends, mentors and/or managers whom they felt gave them a tremendous amount of support and understanding, while at the same time, challenged them to achieve levels of performance which they did not previously realize they were capable of.

Have you ever lead by following? If leaders are the head of the group on the way to the top, what does the climb entail? When on my journey, I think about the summit and continually putting one foot in front of the next. Just perpetual movement forward. Sounds easy enough. If only that’s all there were to it! Getting to the top involves mental and physical challenges. I experienced some of those challenges recently.
