First, you have to know what those goals are. Second, you need a plan. (Cue theme song from “Rocky.”) Whether you write full-time, part-time or when time permits, you need a business plan. Your business plan should include an Executive Summary. The goals you hope to achieve this year should comprise your executive summary. Let’s say yours looks like this:
Executive Summary: A) Complete novel. B) Sell ten articles to magazines. C) Attend one writers’ conference.
Next comes your Plan of Action. How do you plan to achieve these goals? I’ll prepare three model plans of action. POA1 is for those who write full-time. POA2 is for those who write part-time. POA3 is for those who write when time permits.

Here are the top 50 Rules for Managers. Put them in any order you like. Hopefully they will remind you of something or reinforce a concept you have been using. And if not, maybe you will have an “Aha” moment from using this reminder list.
1.You get all of the blame.

4.Your job is to make your boss look good and remind him/her of their excellent choice in making you a manager.

I discovered Tony Buzan’s ‘Use Your Head’ book while looking in a second hand bookshop over two decades ago. It marked the start of my fascination with the concepts and potential of mind maps. I was intrigued enough by the material in the book to try out mind mapping while I was teaching high school science. This article summarizes the lessons learned from the classroom experience.

David Jones was a British teenager who wanted to make a career out of his love for music. He was playing and performing his music before he ever graduated from school. He become a leader of several bands and finally recorded his first album.
The album received positive reviews by England’s harshest music critics, yet it sold little. In a matter of months, David was homeless and living on the streets. To make matters worse, a new popular London band called The Monkeys was roaring across the headlines and the country with a bandleader who had the same name that he did!

We have heard again and again how important it is to set goals, but how do you set a good goal? This article explores the ins and outs of good goal setting, and outlines a solid strategy to help you evaluate your existing goals, and set new goals.
