Historically concept of prejudice was studied as with a focus on explicit side. Not a long time ago racism started to spread more effectively which is one of features of explicit prejudice. First of all it includes judgment of people originated from the self opinion. Then the level of implicit prejudice can be defined after researches of behavior. It has to be mentioned that such form of scaling cannot be objective because it includes to much subjective opinions. The most independent way to determine the level of implicit prejudice is a new technique which studies one’s associations of a row of ideas such as racial stimulus, some words, positive or negative opinions.
Even though implicit prejudice doesn’t seem to be an important issue it is used as one of the tools for psychology. The first test consists in showing two words to a person where one of the words is the prime one and another one is the target word but the prime word comes first. The thing that is investigated in this test is the relationship between these two words. The critical point in this test is the reaction time – it has to be diminished for a psychoanalytic to determine a normal relationship. It has to be added that such effect can be used for an appraisal of implicit prejudice. Also there was an experiment in which this test was made not with words but images of faces were added. The reaction time was faster when pictures of white people came with positive faces but the result was opposite when black faces were used.
After learning more about implicit prejudice and how it impacts explicit prejudice two hypotheses appear. Because of the priming effect we want to watch a raise in precedence results for the primed rank and for all scores.
